During one of Joel Skousen's speeches in CA around 2001, someone in the audience mentioned being from Argentina, and Joel commented, “I love Argentina.” If I recall correctly, Joel has both lived and worked in South America in the past. Below a different author also gives these countries a “thumbs up". I once considered Panama or Costa Rica as possible "safe havens". Is the present or projected political environment in these particular areas such that would make it an unsafe place to be?

Cry For Argentina
Argentina appears to be coming back. The economy has been growing and wages are starting to catch up. The middle class is even growing larger. A debt restructuring plan was approved. This is a little late, but I have spent quite a bit of time in Chile and Argentina, total of 7 months in the last year in Argentina. I am happy to share information with anyone who is interested.
I kind of agree with Joel about SoAm. No one knows the future--either there OR here. My goal is to have more than one option and to be careful of location within those options. I think if there were any problems for people from the US it would be in the large cities and/or from folks on government subsidies, should those subsidies stop and it be perceived that it is because of American interference, or some similar perception. There is already a lot of anti-American sentiment expressed in posters and demonstrations though it seems more aimed at our government than specific Americans in the area.
